Best book out on this topic

This is the first book I have seen that takes a fairly stat-heavy approach to trading in-game tennis. It explains in detail the single most important concept in tennis betting -- relative hold and break percentages, which are used both pre-game and in-play for pricing. The author spends a great deal of time analyzing situations in-play that may have market inefficiencies. For example, how does a player do when facing a break-point at 0-40, compared to 0-30? Or how does a player's play change when up or down a set? It also gives a lot of practical tips on the execution of trading. This book gets a lot of things right. If you read, understand and apply the contents of this book, you are likely to win (and at least not lose) betting in-play tennis.

I have one criticism of the author's analysis. In many examples where stats are provided, the analysis is not robust. He does not consider how two samples he is comparing should be different in a vacuum. For example, the author defines a group of women's servers as "bad", and the group holds serve 56.6% of the time. When a bad server is serving to stay in a set (e.g., down 4-5) the serve hold rate drops to 54.9%. The author concludes that laying a bad server in such a situation may be advantageous. A better analysis would have estimated the bad server hold rate in that situation (given the player is down a game, that player on average is slightly worse than the opponent, and would be expected to have a slightly lower service hold rate for all games in the match, and not just that particular situation). This omission of conditional groups occurs throughout the entire book.

Despite my criticism of one methodological problem, this is well written and no other book out there comes close to covering this topic as well as this book. For those reasons, I gave it 5 stars.

Through an artful use of color and texture, the marbleized skin of the python and the wrinkled hide of the crocodile seem amazingly real. In several cases, there is a playful overlapping among the animals, as when the gray wolf looks hungrily at the opossum and the tiny painted turtle swims calmly behind the huge shark. As well as offering an inventive exploration of the concepts of big and little, this title serves as an introduction to a group of animals, several of which are endangered. Ages 4^-7. Jenkins, whose previous picture books include Biggest, Strongest, Fastest (1995), here points out the differences in size between animals who are similar in other ways. The artwork combines cuttings of colored, textured papers to form animals that stand out strikingly against white backgrounds. Each spread features a large animal and a related smaller one: sea otter and elephant seal, Siberian tiger and Siamese cat, ostrich and ruby-throated hummingbird. One line of text comments on the two animals' sizes, habits, or habitats. The final pages include a presentation of the comparative sizes of all the animals, a paragraph of additional information about each species, and a bibliography. Handsome textured cut-paper collages on white paper show animals of the same species that are vastly different in size. Since each pair is created to scale (1'' = 8''), viewers can make comparisons. A preface explains that various animals grew bigger or smaller over time to adapt to their habitats. Subsequent spreads depict pairs from the same species--one big, one little--while a single line of text, curving around the larger animal, introduces them: ``Both the Nile crocodile and the African chameleon live in tropical Africa.'' Most of the pairs do not inhabit the same habitat: Siamese cats and tigers are not found together, nor are fennec foxes and gray wolves. Animals include the hummingbird and ostrich, sea otter and elephant seal, capybara and deer mouse. Final pages show the animals in silhouette to scale, with a paragraph of information on each. The collages show artistic license: The Siamese cat is charcoal- colored, instead of the more common representation of buff with dark ears and tail; the capybara doesn't appear to have webbed feet; the Virginia opossum looks strangely unlike itself. The main problem is that Jenkins (Looking Down, 1995, etc.) is unclear about his audience: The opening paragraph on evolution is difficult for young readers; the rest of the book does not reinforce that paragraph for older readers and will put them off as little more than a naming or comparison game. This 1996 book is a precursor to Jenkins' highly acclaimed "Actual Size" (2004). While the latter book fulfills the title's promise by showing animals and animal body parts in their actual size, this book shows them in 1:8 scale; that is, the animals are drawn accurately, but 1/8 smaller than actual size. Although many of the two books' animals are the same, and Jenkins again contrasts large and small animals for contrast and wonder, "Big and Little" is simply not as fascinating as "Actual Size."

Unlike "Actual Size," "Big and Little" shows most of the animals in their entirety. Once doesn't get the "WOW" factor of looking straight into a close-up of giant squid's eyes or a shark's mouth. Big and Little relies greatly on the contrasting sizes of animal pairs on two-page spread ; for example, a Siberian tiger and a Siamese cat, an ostrich and a hummingbird, a cat shark and a great white shark. While Jenkins uses the cut-paper collages of "Actual Size," he seems more timid here; the animal hides and skins are less textured and the color schemes more conventional. Jenkins again includes brief descriptions of each animal pictured in the book, but they are shorter and not as interesting as in his latter book.

If "Actual Size" had never been written I'd give this a higher rating; with his new book Jenkins has set a higher standard for himself and other writers. The main advantages of "Big and Little" are the lower price and the relatively more simple pictures that may be more comprehensible than "Actual Size" to very young toddlers or infants. Aside from that, I strongly recommend his newer book over this one.

Awesome Introduction to Animals

I bought this book after I became familiar with it while researching books about animals for a class project I am working on. The cut-paper collages are beautiful, and visually stunning. The simple text following the shape of the larger animal adds to the appeal of this book. I think this is a great book for young children to introduce them to animals in general, and also the concept of big and little. I am so glad I bought this book, and I know my own children will enjoy reading it, and I can also use it in my preschool classroom. I know this will be a go to book for a long time to come. I would highly recommend this book!

What an excellent book!

In The Eleventh Hour Phillips manages to capture the emotions so long untold. This book begins pre-WWII in Europe with a loving, Godly man and his beautiful daughter who is still more child than woman. After they meet some American diplomats who are soon invtied for a visit you come to Lebanshaus, or the House of Life. Baron von Dortmann and his family have always opened their doors to everyone seeking spirtual and physical peace. He teaches his new friends the gift of God and his daughter Sabina helps her new friend Matthew in many ways. Secrets unfold along the way making this book suspensful near the end where the remarkable power of God will show itself in full force as it does throughout the book! Anyone who seeks spirtual fullfillment, wants to learn about Nazi persecution or just likes Michael Phillips will most certainly not be dissapointed in this book.

Love the Secret of the Rose Series

I read these books over and over again at my public library and I'm so happy to finally have this series available as an eBook version on Kindle!! I immediately bought the series. Such an inspiring story of faith, courage and commitment set in Prussia during Nazi reign. The books are filled with suspense, drama, enduring faith and enduring love. Excellent historical fiction series.

His book is a gift to every nation and a must read. Read the book on my flight back from South Africa and could not put it down. I loved the real life stories and practical content. Well done Cassie! A flexible curriculum that serves the needs of all students and helps them develop the higher-level skills demanded by employers is critically important.

The massive expansion of secondary education needed in Ethiopia will require significant additional resources. The book argues that financing reforms aimed at using existing resources more efficiently and mobilizing more nongovernment resources will be indispensible. Specifically, it advocates launching financing reforms within a broad framework that, among other components, includes governance reforms that implement school-based management, changes in teacher preparation and development, and improved student examinations. Finally, the report emphasizes that the success of secondary reforms will to a large extent depend on the achievements of primary education, particularly in light of low primary learning outcomes and the unfinished agenda of universal primary education.

This may be the first book to specifically address how secondary education should be reformed in order to help countries transition from low- to middle-income economies and is intended to help initiate deliberations on this important topic. Anyone can restructure, but this book is about DESIGN

This is the book you want to have when you are faced with redesigning, not simply reorganizing, your organization. It's a practical guide to all the necessary steps one must take in order to ensure alignment of all the components that enhance or inhibit your organization's ability to work smoothly. Kates and Kesler provide a practical framework that is written for the line manager who needs to redesign and the HR practitioner who helps make it happen. Easy to follow, simple to use, and a must-have for anyone who has this challenge in front of them.

Practical for Matrix Design

First, full disclosure I bought this book on Kindle and regret not taking the time for the actual book. Personally, I like to write in the margins, high light and (gasp) make copies of graphs, diagrams etc. but I wanted it quickly and will also purchase the book.

It is a very useful and practical book for an OD professional or a business leader that wants hands on control versus employing a consultant. While practical it is a break down of their methods and approach. It is also directed towards a "Matrix" management model, some discussion of other forms of design and their pro's and Con's would have been very useful. The authors are Jay Galbraith mentees so don't expect a critique of matrix management.

If you buy into matrix management and the clear advantages in a collaborative environment that has broken down the silos, it is very useful and directive. They have addressed some of the early pit falls of matrix management's question of accountability but don't expect direction to design a "command and control" environment, which would not be an option for most situations but may be required in some.

As my rating would indicate, it is an exceptionally useful and instructive book. The steps in their process are clearly articulated as are the underlying issues you are trying to get at. Most impressive, to me was, the way they lead you through the decision you have to make and the questions the various stakeholders have to answer. They walk you through those questions and discussion to arrive at a decision. The book does assume you have a working knowledge of Galbraith's STAR Model, I found that I had to review this model to fully utilize this book. The willingness to be this open and instructive was much appreciated and the advantages greatly outweigh these minor critiques.

Exceptional, Practical Roadmap

This is an extremely insightful and highly useful guide for designing organizations prepared to succeed in today's competitive marketplace. I was expecting a ten thousand foot, theoretical examination of necessary constructs and thought parameters, but instead found something very different and refreshing. While Kesler and Kates' book is well researched and thoughtful, it also provides an experience and example-based road map that is both logical and clear. The authors present a planning and implementation guide that specifically outlines participation, tasks and milestones. Want to design an organization that is customer focused, efficient, scalable, and achieves results? This book is not only a must-read, it's a must follow.

A nice tool to have; however, I would like to have more study information included with the practice tests and further explanation about the answers. This is especially important for persons who have been working in the field and put off the exam for years; perhaps not so important for those just out of school and finishing a graduate internship. Nonetheless, an added tool for preparation.

NCE Practice Questions is just average. The book has some errors and the questions are much easier than what you get on the exam itself.

Okay for basic concepts, not great for application or deeper knowledge

I have been using other study guides and sources for months, but decided to purchase this for the practice tests. So far I have only skimmed through some of the questions and answers. What I have noticed so far:
1. An answer was incorrect (the description of the answer was correct, but the actual answer was incorrect. Think it may have been a typo.
2. Speaking of typos, there have been several, including repeated choice answers for a question.
3. The language is simple and tests the very basic concepts and information. If you are just starting out studying for the NCE, this may be a good guide to test what basic concepts you know and don't know. You can then study the basic concepts more in depth.
4. The guide does offer explanation for why an answer is correct, which can be helpful if you are unsure or confused.

Overall, I don't feel like it's a waste of money if you don't rely solely on this for studying. I have been using Dr. Rosenthal's Encyclopedia of Counseling, as well as his audio, which I have found to be VERY helpful so far. He gives explanations for all the correct answers, as well as reasons why other choices are not correct. The audio offers an overview of all the content areas and is like a mini-review of my grad degree.

My suggestion: Use as many practice tests and study guides as possible because they can offer insight as to the content and material that will be on the exam.

*Side note: I have yet to take the exam. I will be taking it on 4/18/15, so after I take the exam I will edit my review and comment on the material on the exam versus the material in the study guide.

About the Author

Christopher Penczak is an award-winning author, teacher, and healing practitioner. He has studied extensively with witches, mystics, shamans, and healers in a variety of traditions from around the world to synthesize his own practice of magick and healing.

Wonderful book

I was looking for a book that would help me eliminate some relationship ills but did not want traditional methods. I wasn't sure what this book was going to bring me, but I received practical instructions along with spells that so far seem to work, to help me deal with and remove some of the road blocks I have with relationships. Basically, trust, love, healing and patience is the key foundation to have in your heart before trying to use spell work to manifest relationships. Awesome book, not just witchcraft!!

I have most of Christopher Penczak's books and they are all really good. When this one came out I grabbed it up as the topic was timely for me. I finished releasing my old relationship and found ways to open up to a new one energetically. He has so much good information in here, you are bound to find something that will resonate with what you are needing.
