About the Author
Christian Briggs is working on a Ph.D. in Human-Computer Interaction and Complex Systems at the Indiana University School of Informatics and Computing, where he occasionally teaches courses in new media theory. His research focuses primarily on how people get things done in organizations using digital technology together. Christian previously worked in various creative, management and consultative roles for Palladium Group, Ziff Davis Interactive, Surfwatch, Walt Disney Imagineering, One to One Interactive and Walmart. Christian co-founded SociaLens in 2009 to provide research, training and consulting to help organizations to thrive in the digital age. Kevin Makice is a co-founder of SociaLens and a Ph.D. candidate at the Indiana University School of Informatics and Computing. His past research is eclectic, including political wikis, tangible interfaces for children’s games, machinima, and network analysis of ball movement in basketball. In 2009, Kevin authored the first technical book about Twitter, Twitter API: Up and Running, published by O’Reilly Media. Kevin is a contributor to Wired's GeekDad blog. Larry Buchanan is a freelance illustrator and designer. He graduated from Indiana University in 2011 with a degree in journalism and a concentration in fine art. While in school, Buchanan was named student designer of the year by the Society of News Design and Indiana Collegiate Journalist of the Year by the Indiana Collegiate Press Association. He illustrates a bi-weekly visual column for McSweeney's Internet Tendency about being a recent college graduate and still living in a college town. He lives in a little log cabin in just south of IU's campus with his wife Erin (who copy edited this book) and their dog and cat.

Great advice and tips for getting people to embrace change

This book is a practical guide to building digital fluency among individuals in organizations. Everyone talks about information overload and the stress of keeping up with an ever-changing digital landscape, and Briggs and Makice offer a solution: gain an understanding of the stages of fluency and work with your teams so each individual feels comfortable embracing change. By building confidence and skills, employees will be empowered to reach digital fluency and give their companies a competitive advantage. The 12 exercises in the book are fun and easy ways to introduce new technologies and social media tools to users at all stages of digital literacy. An inspirational and thought-provoking read.

At Last it's finally here!

Makice and Briggs are two very bright guys. I am so pleased to see the final version of their work in print form. I reviewed the work in progress material about 6 months ago and thought it was brilliant. The final version available here is even better. Having worked in business for 25 years I can really see the value that these ideas will bring to businesses. As a marketing educator and researcher I think many of these concepts will be standard material in marketing communication courses prospectively. Enjoy.

Comprehensive but easy to digest

This book has a lot of great content to explain the concept of digital fluency, which is becoming so important to any industry today. I found multiple sections and topics that I will quote and refer to in my everyday work in digital media. However, what makes this specific book so powerful is actually that it is not so academic that it cannot be used as a guide. People throughout the "spectrum" of digital literacy and fluency can glean powerful info, both to enhance their own knowledge and to better understand their clients and colleagues. The engaging content is supplemented by summaries and interactive features and snippets that can be used on the fly. I am excited to use, share, gift and cite this book in a variety of settings.
